My work is greatly influenced by Guatemalan and Peruvian textiles, early Navajo rugs, and Moorish tile work.Īs a member of Spark Gallery, I have had yearly solo shows there since 1985. Over the years extensive travel - 48 countries so far - has always been art related. My first solo show was at Denver’s Brena Galley in 1978, and I have been painting full-time ever since. I have no formal art education or degrees. Emergency blankets are used in dire situations - at border crossings by refugees and immigrants, by survivors of fires and floods, by homeless people. The paintings are meant to remind us of the basic human need for warmth. My paintings on emergency blankets are based on warmth-giving textiles - serapes, blankets, quilts. Often my shows are installed as a single unit, treating the entire gallery as a blank canvas. ![]() Use of unusual materials is one constant in my artwork: duct tape, plexiglas, saran wrap and emergency blankets, as well as more traditional mediums. ![]() Annalee Schorr: Usually optical and kinetic and sometimes political, my artwork always centers on pattern, geometry and grids. ![]()
